Make September a time to Protect, Beautify, Educate; in some way Improve our local community.

The September Project aims to honor the unsung heroes of the tragedy of September 11, 2001 by encouraging citizens to improve or address the needs of their local communities during the month of September.

We honor the spirit of community of New Yorkers who put their lives in peril to save others, who fed relief workers, sheltered people and pets evacuated from soot-ridden homes, searched through wreckage, donated blood and lent a helping hand for anything that was needed in those dark early days during and after the World Trade Center tragedy.

"We lost so much on September 11th; but we gained something too. In our darkest hour, Americans could still rely on each other for strength, courage, solace and rescue. That is something to be celebrated and honored. And so should the lives of the courageous who reminded us."

We remember those lost and honor their struggle through service.
